My mother, Kay, was a professional tap and ballet dancer, and singer of that era. She performed as one of the Devoe Sisters. Her partner, Marcella, was from Pittsburgh, PA. Together they trained as dancers with Gene Kelly’s brother. She was a star performer with the stage productions of Swan Lake, Busby Berkeley, and Ziegfeld before the movie era when the entertainment of the day was vaudeville. She was also a headliner at all the Palace Theatres across the country. As part of a troupe of entertainers, she traveled by train, with her kitty tucked in her travel bag. She told me she once even had a blind date with Rudy Valley! After surviving the great depression, Kay quietly returned to Buffalo, NY, where she married and devoted herself to her family.
A pamphlet will accompany your purchase, describing some of the highlights and photos of her career. This series honors her. ENJOY!
